Al-Ansar
Bismillah. We are raising funds to help renovate and expand masjid Al-Ansar in East San Diego.
Originally a church, the muslim community bought Masjid Ansar. Over 70 years old, its condition is deteriorating and needs your help to be fixed and expanded.
We are raising funds to help renovate and expand Masjid Ansar in East San Diego. The masjid was bought in the early 2000's. The masjid was large enough to serve the needs of the then small muslim community. However, the community has grown exponentially since that time and the masjid also serves many low-income neighborhoods. The property is over 70 years old now and also needs urgent help to fix the wear and tear sustained over the years.
Currently, the masjid has over 400 students that participate in Quran, Hadith and Islamic studies programs. But due to the small size of the masjid we rent off-site facilities in order to meet the demands of the 400 students.
We have had difficult securing funds in our own neighborhoods because the masjid serves a predominately low-income population. In addition, San Diego is a large, busy, border town that sees an influx of new migrants and refugees every year. We try to help our new brothers and sisters but obviously this adds to the strain on the masjid.
Another difficulty we are currently facing is that our beloved sisters section is very small and many of them often have to pray outside and sometimes in the rain. The youth in the area are at-risk because of the low-income area they live in. Many of them face challenges that might mislead them onto a path of drugs, crime, and violence. Due to our lack of facilities and space we have a hard time attracting the youth to join the masjid.
We are appealing to you our brothers and sisters in Islam to help us expand and fix Masjid Ansar so it can continue to serve the growing needs and population of East San Diego.
